Its called the little bluff, about 60 yards from stevens creek hole, ever since the snag blew out its been getting worse, and the gravel bar on the left has been moving out, making the boil bigger, and a bitch to get thru, hopfully the spring storms will change that, and push the river more to the left agian, you guys are very lucky the river didnt suck you under that ledge. So glad you made it safe...

Is there any way to get out and walk around this sketchy spot? Haven't been on the Hump since last March.

That spots is pretty dicey at 3500cfs with 2 fat guys as my passengers the day before SRC. Thankfully my boat is fairly wide. I were to do it over I'd hang right and follow the main current and power forward through the boils

Sounds a lot like the "fingers" on the Sky, near the Wallace flats. That can get pretty dicey at times. eek

The fingers disappeared many years ago, 10ish to be close. should be interesting float with the flows @ 5.5ft lots of changes in the river the last few years

Nobody has answered my question. Is it not possible to walk your boat around it on the left?

I've not rowed that part of the Humptulips in 30 years but when I looked down river from Stevens Creek there is a large gravel bar on the left....so yes you could rope a boat past that part.....

just don't wait too long to get on the gravel bar......from where I was standing it looked like "innocent water" but apparently not.

Lots of boats have gone over that water this fishing season....I've not heard of another boat having problems

see that little finger just below the blue marker on your map, that's the hairy spot. river pushes up against a clay bank, but there's a shelf just under the surface with fingers carved out of it, causing some weird current.

Better view?

When the levels are normal, Its not hard to go thru, If the log is still there, its not as easy, but still not hard, but when the levels up like over 2k or more, it pushes right to the ledge, or you get stuck in the boil, and have to row out of it, yes you can walk around, but you'll need extra rope, and some patients, you have to keep the ass of the boat to the left, theres a couple shallow spots on the left than it drops off, you have to be in control of your sticks at all times if the rivers up. If the rivers up like 3000 or 3500 there should be a small passege on the left, unless the grave bar filled in more. If another snag builds to the right, that gravel bar on the left will change and open up that spot agian.
