instead of asking a bunch of stupid questions here, you should go out and actually try fishing. its amazing how much you learn just being out there and trying stuff.

Thisbudsforu, Instead of waisting your time telling the guy what a stupid question he had, why didnt you just answer it. Arent you the "expert" that wants all the Sno/Sky info?

Kory, Try size 3 and 4 Vibrex or Mepps spinners in chartruese, orange, or blue. Any of the good steelhead spoons will work as long as they match the water conditions. If water is low and clear, try a long leader (5ft) and a wee dic nite. And yes, the more you spend on the water the more you will learn.

Fish on....

Hey, this Budsferu. Dontbe such a ****, obviosly this guy doesnt know much about fishing with spoons and is asking for help on technique and probably where to go. Thats what this board is here for, to let fisherman help each other. Not to throw their asshole attitudes around.

As far as fishing spoons goes, the way Ive learned is to cast across the stream letting your spoon sink until it gets to abouta 45 degree angle downstream then putting just enough pressure on the line so you could almost pull the spoon, but giving the line just enoughh slack so you can see the line twichting the rod tip. Allow the spoon to swing downstream like this until its beneath you, at which point you real in.

Im no expert, especialy cause I mostly flyfish but if you use that basic technique, and experiment with it you should be able to catch a few.

Ive also been told that you should use the shorter wider spoons for fast riffly water, and the longer narrower spoons for the slower water.

As far as where to go on the skagit? thats something Id like to know myself.

Good Luck,
Josh

Looks like the rivers dropping fast, should be hot. While the water is brown I'll be plunking a #4 nickel plate spinnglo with orange eggs. When it starts turning green, casting a #3 mortac gold hammered spinner, green wicked willie, wells special or **** nite.

see i dont get it. i never once said i was an expert. when i make a post asking a question i usually try to include info about im using and where im fishing. im just sayin that instead of trying to leach off of people here mabey he should go out and talk to people on the river or just start actually fishing. i didnt find this board till about 2 weeks ago. and it just seems kinda like cheating if you give away all your secrets or tell someone all they wanna know here. i just think he'd be better off learing to fish on a river not on the internet.

I allways use the teardrop spoons, Blue fox makes one but I've used cheaper ones with good success, if you are in slow big water I have allways thought depth and speed were most critcal. Use the countdown method so you dont hang up more then once and try low and slow, high and fast, middle of depth and jerky retrieve till you find what they are likin on that day/water condition. C

I would for go using large spoons and stick with spinners and ****nites for silvers. Try size 2 (low clear water) size 3 (little higher water) size 4 (high/colored water). Bronze, blue body, green body all seem to work. Cast out, let the spinner sink to the bottom and real 2 - 3 quick turns to get the blade moving, then bring it in along the bottom. They will chase these a long way sometimes while you are reeling in....

For ****nites, I haven't experimented enough yet to know what to do.

Bill Herzog's book on spoon fishing is pretty good.
1.Drift mending ( pulling the spoon back then letting it go slower and deeper all while drifting through a hole is a good tip.

"2.If the spoon wabbles your pulling to hard"

3.Follow the spoon down the drift with your rod tip.
It takes lots of trips to the river to figure out some of this stuff.
spinners as well as spoons need to be fished low and slow (most of the time).

Kory,
I`ve been doing a lot of experimenting with spinners and spoons ever since a guy on this took me out and showed me the basics to using
them. I won`t give his name out of respect for him but I will say this, he`s one hell of a fisherman.
You don`t need to reel it in fast, but do let it sink down near the bottom, and bring it across thier path at an angle perpendicualr to the stream nice and easy, it will have a tendancy to float upward if you reel in to fast. The blade only has to spin.

Eric,
I would`nt mind sharing a bank with you sometime, you have the same philosophy as me
on a few issues, let`s get together and throw a line sometime
