when using side planers, what type, size, and color plugs do you use?

If you're bank-bound sideplaners can be amazingly effective. The usual plugs work well off a sideplaner. Wiggle-warts work best in green/pirate, blue/pirate, chrome, gold, and for summer-runs a chartreuse-butted Michael Jackson (black body, glitter with a green butt). Just like flying a kite! I have a bud in Oregon that is a bankie and does nothing but throws plugs and sideplanes. He does extremely well. Good luck.

Don't use them a lot but when I do I seem to do best on either blue pirate or green pirate hotshots, size 35, with rattle. Good luck

about 8 years ago I got a side planer for christmas and it is still in the package but I don't know how to rig one or how long of a leader I will need. Theres a great slot that I have been pulling some nice silvers out of with bait but it is impossible to cast a plug into and get it to work correctly. the water is about 5-9 feet deep with fast water on my side of the river with the slot about 30-50 feet out. any suggestions...

Buzzerbaby, I have used side planer in the river with not so good results yet. I know that this system will work very good given right water conditions. The slot that your talking about will probably be to fast for the side planer. What I have found in the past is that I can get the side planer to work great right on the inside edge of the seam. As soon as the planer hits faster water it will flip over on you and wash back and fourth. What I do to try and prevent this is to bring a couple of rubber bands and wrap the wire to the planer so it doesn't pop out when you hit faster water. I have had the planer all the way across the river before but it does take some work and right water conditions. Good luck and I hope this will help you! Fish on!!!

well I tried the side palner/wiggle wart combo yesterday and had 2 nice hits but was unable to hook 'em. any suggestions? I was using tuff line for main line so line stretch wasn't a factor.
