I was out fishing today, and seen probably 15 or more chums near the bank very visable, these fish werent all takers but I was looking for a fight. I first threw out some eggs at them and no takers. so I switched to a spinner and still no takers. After about a 45min or so I got frustrated I had tried almost everything I know, I even tried a white and pink marabou jig that I hear people talking about getting chums with and the wouldnt even look at it. Whats my problem why wont any of these fish bite? Does anyone have any suggestions on what they would do? I would like to get some information cause as stubborn as I am im going to try to catch them again tommorow my guess is that they'll still be in the same place. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to catch these fish it would be highly appreciated.

Ryan try throwing shrimp, either sandshrimp or even better ($$$), tiger prawn meat. Chums will pick up a well-presented egg cluster, but I find that they bite shrimp baits even better. I don't even bother bringing eggs to the river for a chum trip. Save them for winter-runs.

Also if you can see them, they can probably see you too. Thus, you'll need to scale down your offering. In clear to steelhead-green water conditions I've been successful using an 8lb leader, #1 gammy, and a pea-sized corky. Since you're "looking for a fight," you'll find one using these relatively light leaders.

Lastly, In my experience the chums rolling and playing right next to the bank in 10 inches of water are the black spawners. The "meat" of chum holding water lies just outside these spawners, from about 2 ft deep on out. Try targeting this section, which contains most of the biters (moving fish). You'll also get a better presentation in this deeper water because the increase in flow. If you insist upon targeting the boots frolicking at your feet, then just let your gear tail out and let it set for twenty seconds. Every once in a while you'll get lucky and you won't line any since your leader is directly downstream.

Green corky, green yarn, green anything seems to work for me. If you find a slot where they are stacked up and biting, you can pretty much throw any color combo of corky and yarn and get one on.
Where were you fishing?

I'll second Hoh, recently we were picking up the occasional chum with plain corkie but if we added some fresh prawn we were almost garaunteed a hookup, these were moving fish note holed up ones.
