I am attempting to modify the anchor system on an older glass driftboat. The boat has a rear deck with a storage area where the rope could pass easely to get out of the way. I (think) that I would perfer to have a center pull system, but I really do not want to mount a pully or the rope to the floor under the rowers seat. A side pull system, where the rope runs along the gunwale, is also an option. Please help

I wouldn't mount it to the floor either. Do the words "frozen rope" mean anything to you? The simplest anchor system is usually the best since it will work in most weather conditions. Mount a metal clam (or "V" jam) cleat right in front of the anchor roller and you'll be good to go. Make sure the clam cleat sits up slightly higher than the roller (you may need to mount it on a block of wood or aluminum) If you still want a side pulley system you can get sailboat hardware through West Marine. Good Luck!

I've got a Clackacraft with the side pulley system, and I really like it. Previously had a Fish-Rite with the clam in the back. I much prefer being able to remain seated while pulling the anchor, rather than having to stand up and turn around. Plus, in those situations where you need to get on the sticks quick, you can have them in your lap and get to them fast. Also, if you keep any gear in the back of your boat, like I do, there's less chance of the line getting fouled on something when you drop the anchor.

Side anchor system's work great, but the pulley's wear out farely fast. They need to make them out of stainless steel or something, with a grease zirt. They can get a little noisey when letting out or pulling in anchor line.Good luck

Try calling Ron at Lavro Boats in Monroe. He would be happy to help you with ideas. Most likely has the parts you need at his boat shop. Also a side pully mfg. lives in Monroe. Good Luck and Good Fishin` Bob H.
