I need new oar locks because my oars keep popping out of the oar locks on my drift boat. I just about lost an oar last weekend and it has now become a safety issue because I also had one pop out in a shallow riffle.

Where can I get some new oar locks? I would like to buy the best I can find.

Thanks to all who respond.
Justin

Here's the link.

Check out the heavy duty bronze oarlocks. Mine have been used on a big heavy wood boat and are now on a 14' Lavro and have never popped once.

Take a hammer and knock the horns a little tighter. Pretty simple. fp

Northwest River Supplies carries really heavy-duty oarlocks. Their top-line ones, which they claim are made from the strongest bronze alloy available, run $36.50 a pair. I picked some up last year after experiencing a similar incident and have had absolutely no problems since. You can get to their online catalog at www.nrsweb.com

Sawyer makes a new model that's concentric in shape and adds 25 to 30% greater lateral movement to the lock. 20 bucks each Sportco. They're excellent quality and love the extra three feet or so of clearance from water surface to tip of oar.

Justin, Ron at Lavro usually has some of the heavy duty ones. When mine get a little sloppy, I just use two pieces of 2x4 and knock the horns together a little. Good luck.

Don't worry Doug, he hasn't flipped the boat or killed me yet. Hope you can swim, though!

Last Saturday was a hoot. I was sitting up at the front of the boat, minding my own buisness, when this nice new Cataract oar came floating by. As my mind was thinking "huh, you don't see that everyday", I kind of had this crazy suspicion that the oar might belong to the boat I was in. At the last second, I yanked the oar back to the boat with my rod tip and asked World Famous if he was missing anything. He was. It was our oar. It just "popped out" of the oar lock while anchored up.

Spare oar? Why would anyone need a spare oar when one has unbreakable Cataract Oars???

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Now I have a lot to choose from.

Don't worry Doug, I need new oar locks by this weekend so I am heading up to Three Rivers Marine and/or Lavro Boats in Monroe today to get some new oar locks.

It was pretty funny when we were anchored up in the Barking Dog hole and the oar just started floating away. Ooops! I almost had to make chase with the electric motor.

I would also like to thank everyone who responded to my post. I am still going to search for the best possible oar locks. I just need something better than what I have for now.

Thanks again
Justin

I am using the heavy duty oar locks from Willie boats. They are strong and provide a bulletproof setup for your boat. However, I am always open for improvements, and the Northwest River Supply bronze sounds real good. Good luck in your decision. I would worry about the cost on these things-they are critical.

I have seen some really nice stainless steel oarlocks advertised in STS. Check out the last couple of issues.
