Anyone out there have a 'how to' reference for performing a reverse blind splice for loop to loop connections of dacron backing to fly line? Any tips would be appreciated. mo

By golly Mo you've got me stumped I can't even get a vision of what it might be your asking could you be a little more descriptive I might learn something new here.

Native Son - Here's for a description. To connect fly line to backing the best technique, at least from what I have heard, is to put a large loop in the backing. Large meaning large enought to put your whole real, or stored fly line through. To make this large loop out of dacron core, there is a way of splicing the loop with a 'chinese finger trap'. This is different than the single blind splice that you see with the braided mono loop connectors that you can put on the tip of your fly line to loop leader. Anyway, you form this large loop with a reverse blind splice and have another loop in the end of your fly line. This allows an easy change of fly line from backing, and is the most secure way of forming the loop. There must be an illustration of this on some web site, or in some book. I haven't found it. Trey Coombs or Deke Meyers' books don't have them, although both talk about other techniques of splicing. I'm sure this is what most fly shops use when they rig a reel with fly line. Mo, OK I would suggest that you use a nail knot it is fast and easy to tie and will go through the guides a lot easier than those yuppie splices . Most of that junk is dreamed up by people who are trying to make a living by reinventing and marketing what used to be the simplest form of fishing known to man.
The little loop splices are prtty slick if you can't make up your mind what tip you want but I really don't see them as an advantage on the backing end of things.

A doulble loop marriage not will work great with no slip aka fishermens knot.

Mo ... you must have ESP ... since most of my tips have been gear-oriented recently, I was going to throw in a a couple of patterns or the splicing method for the next one. If you can hold on a bit longer, you'll find illustrations as well as a video of the procedure here around Christmas!
