I just put my egg jars in the dishwasher to be cleaned to have fresh eggs put in them, before i realized about the soap. Is this going to be a problem? How would i get rid of the scent of the soap before i put my fresh eggs in them?

Ryan,

Don't be too concerned with the soap scent. One of the best and most widely used egg cures is Borax which is a soap itself. Whatever soap residue/scent that is left in the jar should not make much difference and might even help catch fish. If you are still worried about it, then coat the inside of the jar with a thin layer of shrimp, anise, or sardine oil.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Yeah, Borax is technically not a "soap" but its most common use is as a laundry booster. Borax is made up of various chemical compounds described in the link posted by Dan S. Thanks, Dan, that was interesting. I didn't know that Borax has a "sweetish metallic taste". Anybody care to verify that one*JK*? Borax can't be a soap because soap tastes like #$%&. I know because I used to cuss a lot as young boy (still do, just don't get punished).

Curing eggs in Boraxo would surely be a bad thing. Thanks, Os, I didn't want to lead anybody in the wrong direction. There are some people that have gone the wrong route though. My friend Parker cured some eggs years ago in Boraxo and I heard that Bryan at Ted's did the same thing years ago. The fish hit 'em ok but they were belching up bubbles from it.

I wash my Kwikfish in Lemon Joy or something similar, letting them soak in the "dishwater" to clean off all of the nasty sardine residue that's left on them. I think that mild dish soaps don't have any negative effects on fish. Doubt me? Take a look at my plugs sometime as most of them have so many funkin' teethmarks that it looks like somebody dragged 'em around behind the car.

I'll be at the nooch most likely hoping for some rain to bring in some winter runs, hooked a couple fish today but couldn't bring em in. Are you going to drift it this weekend?
