You guys were right, fished the Nooch today, all I saw was my fishin' partner go swimming, pretty entertaining. I do have some questions. I can fly fish trout out of a mudpuddle, a cup of coffee, hell, I have even caught them in my kitchen sink. Where do steelhead and salmon like to hang in the rivers. This is my first year fly fishing for them. Will they generally hang in the same types of places that you would look for trout?

Also, I need to know what the expected river customs are for sharing a hole. My fishing partner and I were working a hole and three guys blasted down the river from above us and walked right in where my line was at the bottom of its swing. I could have snagged his boots and honestly I wanted to. If the tables were turned I would have continued to the next hole down and left them to fish the area they were in. I am just too thin skinned about this or is this too much to expect.

when you come on another fisherman in a hole I just either go down to the next hole or you can follow them down the hole lettin them get first shot at the hole. Sounds like ya just met some rude guys. Just never low hole a guy.

No easy answer......problem is, more and more fisherpeople, same amount of river.

Weekends are bad but now the weekdays are almost the same......retired folks, me, and more and more 4 day work weeks or people just not working during this time of the year.

Keeping smiling, go with the flow..or stay home...

Define Low-holed? I'm not being a smart A$$ ,How far does this imaginary boudary extend? We floated a couple weeks ago and came upon a drift boat ,with it's occupants fishing from the bank we proceeded down river about 75 yards to fish a lower section of technicly the same hole ,The slot varied in depth all the way though it,upon my dropping anchor I was informed by a not kind gentelman that I was low holeing them, I explained that the hole he was fishing was above the a shallow section and this divided the slot in to a series of holes ,He simply questioned my family back ground
So we pulled up and drop down another 40 yrds to another section were of course we hooked and landed 2 summeruns,as they moved on they didn't even stop at first place we did,I thought they wanted to fish it, were we wrong? My feeling was this particular section was made up of several holes,I don't think he agreed with me....Os

Yes, I agree..can we get a definition from the gallery?

Osprey..I would say that 75 yards is plenty of room.

but on smaller rivers like we have here in southwest washington many pools are not that long in such cases.. if someone is in a hole go in above them ask permission or go to the next hole. If your on the bank and a boat is working through it go above them. Conversely if you are in a boat and come across bankies do not fish through them either ait for them to finish of float on by and dont go in beliw them.

O's 75 yards is more that enough. I think if he was pulling plugs through a long slot and ya went to the sweet spot he might have a complaint. But they were sittin on the bank fishin one hole and doesn't sound like its was the same one as you were. Some guys don't understand that on some of the larger rivers theres more than one slot on a section of the river.

Thanks I thought I was being pollite,But I did learn some new sign language that day,too bad we had to leap frog with these goons all day,But they sure knew when we hooked a fish, made it kind a sad considering most of our fish came from holes they just fished...Os
