Fished the Fraser River yesterday and all we saw caught was a couple of Sockeye landed and released! They're comming in boys! Went over the Vedder, it looked awesome. Greenish clear. Heard they were nailing some nice kings in there. These kings will go up to 50lbs! My buddy got a 42lbr in his freezer to mount. Going to hit the Fraser or Vedder this week...I'll report back. FJ, Craven, Bring 1, 1.5 and 2oz round lead balls with an eye. They work better than pencil lead. Do you have a sand anchor, 50 to 70lbs? Regular sled anchors won't hold. Small, portable propane BBQ (Walmart $29.00) to cook some fish in your boat? OH! "Don't forget lots of Ben-Gay for your shoulders"!!

get ready for sockeye to open this week. The annoucement should be for either aug.1 or aug.3. The river is a little higher than normal for this time of year and fishing out of the boat opens up a lot more river to fish. I will post here when the opening date is annouced

I'm planning on going up this weekend and taking a shot at the sockeye from the bank. Does anybody know any decent places to try? I'm not looking for any secret spots -- just looking for spots. Period. I don't mind crowds, and I don't mind gong-shows, as long as there is a reasonable chance at fish. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Go Here and click on Fishing reports. At the bottom of that page you can download a detailed map of the Fraser river bars and access points. Also you could call Fred's custom tackle in Sardis BC and they'll point you in the right direction.

3/0 You can get to the river at Gill road or if the 1st nation people do not kick you off, right below the agassiz/rosedale bridge will be good to fish, also one last bank access spot would be at Island 22. for almost every other place a boat is needed.

Thanks for the tips, folks. I thought you needed a boat to get to Island 22, though? I'll post a report if/when it opens and I go!

Fred's 1-604-858-7344 or www.freds-bc.com I found a nice topo map at Fred's for southwestern BC. It's called "Backroad Mapbook, vol 1" It's like our Gazetter map books. $15.95 Canadian, I think that's about $1.25 US I saw Walmart has some round weights in a 4 pk for about $1.29, they are $1.29 each at Fred's. Oops- Another good site for the beginner on "How To" sockeye fishing is www.reelangleroutdoors.com Go to "Fraser Sockeye Fever"

I think for an 8 day license with a salmon stamp you will pay about $34.00cdn (the great northern peso)If you come change your money at a bank, most stores give poor exchange rates and they will not take visa for licenses.

Two other places for walk in access will also be at the mouth of the coquihalla river and the Scale bar (landstrom's) is also going to open for the sockeye season

I haven't been fishing the Fraser for a couple of years and was thinking about taking the kids up there next week. I have never had anything but good experiences in Canada, but this post I ran across on anglingbc.com has me wondering about the hostility level. I hope I'm just being paranoid. Anyone had any problems? chinook (64.114.92.149 - 64.114.92.149) Tuesday, July 30, 2002 - 04:49 pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If your from the US please stay in the US until the softwood lumber issue is settled. I most areas of B.C. we are lossing jobs in huge numbers and we feel that the US is acting very unfair to not only our Province but our Country in genreal. We may not be able to FIGHT the powerfull US over the lumber issue, but we can sure as hell fight you at our fishing spots. In short you are not welcome to fish in Canada. http://www.anglingbc.com/discussion/messages/2151/2402.html?1028180317
