You guys say tribal. Do you mean Indians?? Come on atleast they are subsistance fishers. How about the white guys in commercial fishing. How about the white guys snagging and keeping illegal fish. The commercial is what is killing us. Why are we complaining about the hatcheries when we keep getting record runs of salmon. There are less and less natives because people catch them and dont release them.

I was thinking maybe someone can help me out here. What is the difference between a hatchery and a native, obviously the dorsal fin. Ok so how did we get hatchery fish. We spawned out natives right and clipped the fin. Dont the hatchery fish have native in them then. It seems confusing to me. I understand that catching a native is awesome I love it. But as long as we keep having awesome runs in the rivers why are we complaining?? Its a combination of everything why there arent many natives. Dont act like the sportfisherman dont poach natives. The runs will never be as good as they used to in the ol' days so get over it!!! Lets look at what we can do to help and quit complaining and get off out buts a contribute. Yeah I bet some of you dont hesitate to take a fish from the river but you seem to do nothing about puting more fish in.

Isn't this the root of the problem? If these gov-ment agencies were not in such blatant violation of federal and state laws, would we still be seeing these lawsuits?

As much as I like hatchery fish, maybe, just maybe hatcheries are really not our "Gods Gift To Fisherman".

You might not like the tactics of these enviro groups, but they are just forcing these gov-ment agencies to comply with the law.

Personally, I don't have a problem with that....even at my fishing expense.

Sure. If you remove the hatcheries, the water quality issues go away...that's of course unless the state decides to just keep the hatcheries on the river and contine to "feed the water". Somehow, I think if a hatchery stops producing fish, the source of the water quality issues (at hand) will go away.

Yes, I think we all can see that these groups are going after hatcheries. But, as you stated above, these hatcheries are federal/state agencies that are not complying with the laws, and are in violation. Someone *should* go after The Man.

I don't see you being any better or worse than WT and the other enviro groups. Just two extremes not looking at the middle.

I don't wish for anyone to lose fishing opportunity. Matter of fact, I can only wish that it gets better for my kid(s) and grandkids.

Letting state and federal hatcheries go unchecked and unregulated won't help that fishing opportunity.

I have often wondered, after reading piece after piece in my Sport Fishing publication, why San Francisco has as good if not a better Chinook Sport fishing season than Puget Sound. One of the big factors, I am told, was that California was able to curtail or outlaw commercial fishing. But I was just reading about the Sacramento River Winter Run Chinook 2001 report and included in this report is the brood stock program. I believe that we in Washington need to assess if we always want to be a second class state when it comes for sport fishing for Chinook. If that's ok, then closing hatcheries is an acceptable solution. NOt in my book!!!

Subsistance fishers give us a break! Your not talkin to a bunch of morons or blind people here.

How about the natives snagging and keeping whatever they want? legal for them. discrimination in my book. I know two natives that make $60,000 a year just on shrimp! If they really need all that salmon for food how come they just keep the eggs and pile up the carcasses on the beach or just toss them back in the water dead waste! waste! waste! waste! Indians used to use everything now its the white man that uses everything I am ashamed! mad

Commercials are bad too but at least they dont net right in the fricking rivers and chase every last fish in the hole into there nets.
