Grandpa,

Well, yes and no. Not all that many fly fishermen are cyclists, and not a lot of cyclists fly fish. By coincidence, I fly fish and ride bikes. However, I don't wear waders (neoprene or breathable) while riding my bike; nor do I wear lycra while fly fishing. Or bait fishing either.

I assume you're referring to bicycle nuts in the same affectionate way you'd refer to fishing nuts. Right?

Oh, uhm, it isn't the lack of a skinsuit and "pointy hat" that limits my speed. Think about the cause of wind resistance.

Todd,

Of course! Old school it is. At least for me. I've still got pre-ban polar bear and heron. Should last me a while, especially with no fast sinking lines.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Salmo,

Go down to the Shipyard in Bremerton and talk to the DNR pest control guy. He can get you plenty of Heron feathers and even some sea otter fur if you want.

He traps sea otters down there and shoots every heron he sees as they make a mess on the docks and ships.

This is done at the direction of the Navy.

Rich:

If I recall the regs on this, even if the guy gives you the stuff we still can not legally possess the materials. (can we?)

One side of me says "Who would know?"...the other says "I would sure hate to get caught with that stuff!".

Mike

Yeah I know.

I just think it is strange the Federal government can break federal law and kill federally protected animals because they poop on federal property.

I always thought it was strange when I saw it. The DnR guy would ride with us on our patrol boat and blast hundreds of Sea Gulls, Cormerants AKA Shiatacourts, and Herrons as well. He had snair traps in the boat house for the otters. When they got snaired a weight would release and take them to the bottom and drown them. He poisened the Honkers and pidgons.

Rich,

Thanks, but I'll pass on that offer. Possession of restricted species (post 1972 ban) in my line of work would be problematic. Besides, I really have no need. It's not like steelhead are choosy about what they'll hit. Also besides, this thread is deliberately light hearted in response to all the uptight threads about fishing methods, practices, and regulations of the past 2 months.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.
