I just finished with 500 pre-tied 6/0 40lb. I like to be a little sporting so I went with a lighter line and smaller hook than fall fishing. I got all 500 hooks in less than 2 minutes.

I forgot to mention that my oldest son ties them for me.

Sweet deal! I can tie a hook in about 9 seconds .. thats not wrapped on the foam though. must be from tying them for other guides when I was 9..damn them!!! hahhaha

I dont belive I could pull 500 hooks out of there boxs and untangle them in 15 minutes. If so id have to plug the holes in my fingers after.

I am serious. I know its a bad sign that I can no longer tie a egg loop. But I have been mooching leaders off my fishing partners for like 2 years. I picked up a spool of Seaguar and a 2/0 gami the other day. I just can't remember. HELP

I routinely knock out 50, double hook (4/0 Gami's) mooching leaders on 30 lbs. Maxima during an NCAA or NBA basketball game, that includes wrapping them (like a store bought pre-tied leader) and putting in leader wallet. 250 down, 450 to go.

AkKings- Have you found a better leader wallet than the cheapie Danielson's? They don't last too long. I hate the Pip's things.

There are 11 felt pages in each wallet, I can get 7, 4/0, 30 lbs leaders per page or 5, 5/0, 40 lbs. leaders per page.

I am SLOW when it comes to tying either egg loops or mooching leaders. I did a few this weekend with 10/0 hooks and 60 pound leader and found 60lbs test difficult to work with. (Magnum line by Mason @ .031 dia) Also used thin rope to tie an egg loop in a shark hook for a cheap halibut gaff. The rope will provide something to grip on the shank of the hook... We'll see if it works as planned.

Re: the 60 lbs. test: Will I get better working with heavy mono with practice, or should I start using brass sleeves and a different style hook?

A couple of the guides I work with in Ak. made them, sell them for $12-$15 each.

I can do a whole roll in about the same time it take one of these speed freaks to stop paying attention.

I wish, But you out to see me fumble around. I end up tying a snell knot a little short of the hook eye. That way I can make it a egg loop.

I think its because I learned to tie them in Sitka. Our favorite drink was Alaska Alligator (pint glass full crushed ice, half fill with madori half absolut) maybe a splash of grenedine. remember getting it then, but now its gone

might have been my favorite drink, not sure anyone else was drinking them

Thanks my buddies are getting tired of handing out leaders. [censored] I provide the hooks and leader material. And the ability to hook fish. But they bitch cause I use all the leaders they tie.

As a kid I had an awful time learning how to tie the egg loop knot. I eventually learned using a coat hanger bent like a hook and a peice of clothsline. if I ever foget that knot i will be in for an Alazheimer checkup soon.... What were we talking about?

For years I didn't use the egg loop. Never learned it so I used a snell. And over the years started using a knot that is like a nail knot. might even be a nail knot. Would just tie it alittle below the eye so I had a loop. One of my friends in Smith River CA saw what I was tying and laughed. Thought it would never hold. But fortuantly I had landed fish that day.

First learned the egg loop in Ninilchik, Then again in sitka. I will watch the video and see if it comes back

Anyway glad to hear you guys can tie one in 14 seconds. I will see how long it takes me.
