No I haven't bought one yet. I have shot a few though. Shot the new Limbsaver bow, very nice but don't like the price tag $750. Shot the Bear truth 2, also nice smooth, quiet, shoots 318 fps, price $649. Been looking at the Parker Hornet 2 plus. Also been looking at the Mathews DXT but that bow is not cheap either.

My feeling is that new bow prices are out of control. Ya I know you get what you pay for. I justg don't think you have to spend $1200 to get a nice bow that shoots quietly, is fast, smooth, lite, and all that other stuff.

I have bought a lot of items on Ebay for a fraction of the cost. I have been looking to maybe buy one from there?

those dxt's are awesome bows, and the hornet 2plus is a sweet little bow. even on clearance though the hornet is a spendy little bow

Anyone check out the Elite Archery bows yet? These things are sweet. They are very light and sweet shooting. My buddy has two of them and I'm gonna get one in the next month or so. Made here in Washington.

Ned, If you're looking for a cheap reliable, smooth shooting bow that shoots 302, i would recomend the fred bear element. ever since i shot that bow for the first time I loved it, the first shot i ever took at an animal with it, was a 73 yard shot, double lung, complete pass through. great bows, I would recomend them any day. or the cabelas outfitter series bows made by parker is also a good bet. my old man got one of those this year, whoa talk about a fast, smooth and QUIET bow. another great choice. pm me if u are interested in knowing more.

Ned, I really like the Guardian I bought. I have a Montana Gold Flashpoint 5 Pin sight on it, Trophy Ridge Drop Zone rest. I put an STS string supressor on it because I replaced the string with a winners choice after accidentaly dry firing it and screwing up the string and cracking both limbs. Bowtech was cool and replaced the limbs under warranty though. I shot my first Robin hood today, Kinda cool to do but a little expensive when arrows(Easton Axis) I am shooting are around $10 a piece. Couldn't be happier with the bow though, nice and smooth to draw and very accurate when I do al the right stuff.

I was pretty happy with Broken arrow, a little more expensive than doing things online and stuff but with me not knowing anything about setting up a bow it was money well spent. They also were the ones that lobbyed Bowtech to cover my limbs since I was honest about it and didn't try and BS them about what happened. Only thing I don't really like about the shop is that it is a half hour or better form my place to go down there. So I have been going over to Archery World here in Vancouve for small stuff.

I don't know much about archery, so I figure it's probably going to be my next folly. Fly fishing,nm rod tying, golf and club building, salmon fishing, fly tying, garden...yeah, I need one more thing to do...sure.
If I had to go get one today, I'd go Bowtech Commander, due to brace, A to A, and speed...plus it looks like it's off of Star Trek. The forgiveness rating is high due to the forementioned, so being a rookie, it seems like it would last me for a while. Pricewise, I think used prices may drop as we get into spring.
Now here's a question: Not so long ago (and still today), guys shoot deer with recurves without all the do-dads that compounds have. As opposed to 10 gadgets on a bow, can't a guy get away with using just a sight fall away for a non-trophy situation. For example, I can hunt Hood Canal jsut 15 minutes away. What are the top 2-3 add-ons you'd use to keep your bow inexpensive?

Ned, another place to look if you looking used is http://www.archerytalk.com , they have a classifieds page that has a lot of bows. I know a couple guys that have also gotten them off Ebay. Like you I am a newby to archery, and I have been having a blast learning to shoot. A lot more involved than I thought it was bu fun and I can do it here at the house easily.

As far as add ons, all you should need is a rest and Sights and be able to go. Well a release also and arrows. I know it wasn't cheap to get into but I am glad that I did and will start building my own arrows soon enough also to save a few bucks. But I have a feeling that is like building rods, not always cheaper but fun. Best advice I have gotten on bow selections was go to a shop and shoot a few what is good for someone else may not be good for you. I went with the Guardian because it felt good to draw and also to shoot. Didn't shoot the commander but shot a mattews and a couple other bowtechs. So at least go to a shop and shoot a few of the ones your thinking about then yo ucna shop fo rthe one you like.

I bought a couple books on shooting so that I could try and avoid some of the bad habits that people develop. Form seems to be huge in being consistent. I know that the first bows I shot I slapped the crap out of my arm because I wasn't holding the bow correctly, learned that one quickly because that string slap hurts.

IF you haven't looked at archerytalk yet I recomend it. A huge amount of info on there. From how to shoot to equipment etc. It has been fun learning, wish I had picked it up years ago but better late than never. I practice most every day. Only days I don't shoot a little are the days I am at work, so I shoot 2 out of three days usually. Good luck.
