Anyone check out the Elite Archery bows yet? These things are sweet. They are very light and sweet shooting. My buddy has two of them and I'm gonna get one in the next month or so. Made here in Washington. very very nice bows

Ned, If you're looking for a cheap reliable, smooth shooting bow that shoots 302, i would recomend the fred bear element. ever since i shot that bow for the first time I loved it, the first shot i ever took at an animal with it, was a 73 yard shot, double lung, complete pass through. great bows, I would recomend them any day. or the cabelas outfitter series bows made by parker is also a good bet. my old man got one of those this year, whoa talk about a fast, smooth and QUIET bow. another great choice. pm me if u are interested in knowing more.

I don't know much about archery, so I figure it's probably going to be my next folly. Fly fishing,nm rod tying, golf and club building, salmon fishing, fly tying, garden...yeah, I need one more thing to do...sure. If I had to go get one today, I'd go Bowtech Commander, due to brace, A to A, and speed...plus it looks like it's off of Star Trek. The forgiveness rating is high due to the forementioned, so being a rookie, it seems like it would last me for a while. Pricewise, I think used prices may drop as we get into spring. Now here's a question: Not so long ago (and still today), guys shoot deer with recurves without all the do-dads that compounds have. As opposed to 10 gadgets on a bow, can't a guy get away with using just a sight fall away for a non-trophy situation. For example, I can hunt Hood Canal jsut 15 minutes away. What are the top 2-3 add-ons you'd use to keep your bow inexpensive?

Ned, another place to look if you looking used is http://www.archerytalk.com , they have a classifieds page that has a lot of bows. I know a couple guys that have also gotten them off Ebay. Like you I am a newby to archery, and I have been having a blast learning to shoot. A lot more involved than I thought it was bu fun and I can do it here at the house easily. As far as add ons, all you should need is a rest and Sights and be able to go. Well a release also and arrows. I know it wasn't cheap to get into but I am glad that I did and will start building my own arrows soon enough also to save a few bucks. But I have a feeling that is like building rods, not always cheaper but fun. Best advice I have gotten on bow selections was go to a shop and shoot a few what is good for someone else may not be good for you. I went with the Guardian because it felt good to draw and also to shoot. Didn't shoot the commander but shot a mattews and a couple other bowtechs. So at least go to a shop and shoot a few of the ones your thinking about then yo ucna shop fo rthe one you like.
