After being stuck in the house for a week or two because of snow and floodwater, I decided to take the dogs and the girlfriend for a duck hunt. We got to the North parking lot at about 10:30, we had to park in the north lot becuase the road between the honor farm and highbridge was closed due to lingering floodwater. As we pull up two other guys were just leaving, my girlfriend gets out of the truck and says, "Hey there is a gun laying in the mud over there" Sure enough there in the mud is a nice Rem 870 wingmaster. So I thought about the situation for a while and decide to leave a note with my name and phone on the fencepost next to where the gun was laying. I put the gun in my truck and head out hunting. On the way in we meet two guys coming in from hunting all morning. I ask them if they have seen anyone leave in the last hour or two. Evidently, their buddy had just left a half hour ago and was parked right where I found the gun, they correctly identified it so I handed the gun over, they seemed like good guys so I had no problem once they correctly id'd the gun to give it to them.

I think this situation happens quite often I have friends that have done the same thing and who have foulnd guns in the parking lot. I have almost been guilty several times, you lean your gun on your tire get your keys out, load the dogs in the kennel, and forget about your gun.

Oh yeah and the hunt, we saw lots of swans and mud but no ducks flying. I think in two hours we saw two flocks of high flyers, thats it.

Agree on you're a good guy. I got a rod/reel back last winter and have done the same. Never found a gun though. Nice job.

Lets hope karma comes back for once. A few more guys like you out there do the sport well. Seems like to often people are digging through you truck if you leave it unlocked to take your crap rather than finding and returning it. Limit of ducks for you next trip........If I had any say in it which I dont.

Once upon a time finding something did not make it yours.Thank you for taking the high road.Sometimes I think people pick things up with every intention of doing the right thing but just by picking it up they screw the reel owner. In the case of a fire arm I believe picking it up is the right thing. But with other things I do not know.

Camped at Allen bar. Met a reel nice fellow. He had a pontoon boat.He floated Allen down to cottonwood.Pulled of the river late.camping partner supplied turn around.Awoke next morning and realized that he left his oars at cottonwood.Unfortunately somebody decided that his oars needed picking up.Ended up putting pontoon boat away for the rest of his stay.

I came off the Sol Duc at the DNR campground{hungry bear].I got to chatting to a couple of fellows that were heading down the trail.Went to town and realized that I had left fishing poles leaning against tree.Went back ,gone. That one hurt as one of the rods was a handmade gift from a friend in forks. My name on it and all.

Here is a different example.Found a Stihl 66 in the ditch on the top of oil city road.Right at the pull out where the loggers secure there loads before hitting 101.Left it there for a week hoping the owner would find it.Finally grabbed it let Lisa at Allen mill know what I found and where the owner could pick it up.Told other people in the area about it and where it could be found. Finally the owner of a local logging out fit stopped buy to claim it.I had by then figured it was his as he was doing most of the work up the mainline.I had told one of his operators about it.I then found myself defending myself.Seems the person who lost it had told him it had been stolen. All ended well but for all the trouble I went through I was a little pissed.I was not wanting a reward but I was surely not looking to defend myself against stealing it.

Found a wallet a couple of days before christmas at Albertson. It was sitting on top of a video vending machine.I brought it inside and gave it to the manager who I have known since high school.Came back after christmas and had my groceries paid for and then some by the owner of the wallet.Turns out there was a crazy amount of cash in it.
