After being stuck in the house for a week or two because of snow and floodwater, I decided to take the dogs and the girlfriend for a duck hunt. We got to the North parking lot at about 10:30, we had to park in the north lot becuase the road between the honor farm and highbridge was closed due to lingering floodwater. As we pull up two other guys were just leaving, my girlfriend gets out of the truck and says, "Hey there is a gun laying in the mud over there" Sure enough there in the mud is a nice Rem 870 wingmaster. So I thought about the situation for a while and decide to leave a note with my name and phone on the fencepost next to where the gun was laying. I put the gun in my truck and head out hunting. On the way in we meet two guys coming in from hunting all morning. I ask them if they have seen anyone leave in the last hour or two. Evidently, their buddy had just left a half hour ago and was parked right where I found the gun, they correctly identified it so I handed the gun over, they seemed like good guys so I had no problem once they correctly id'd the gun to give it to them.
I think this situation happens quite often I have friends that have done the same thing and who have foulnd guns in the parking lot. I have almost been guilty several times, you lean your gun on your tire get your keys out, load the dogs in the kennel, and forget about your gun.
