As I sit here after Tax Day dreaming about the boat I could have bought with what I just shelled out... I run across this article. While I do care about taking care of people in need when times are tough, I dont hand ANY of my hard earned cash over to anyone who I feel can go make money on their own.
Unfortunately, here in the good old USA, there are far too many people taking advantage of these benefits when they could be working for a living, and not remaining a part of the problem. It's extremely unfortunate that the Federal Gov. is facilitating this expanding disaster...Take a look at this:

While I think the number pulling the wagon is smaller than the number riding in the wagon I question some of the numbers. Is the number of workers based on who is paying taxes vs those that are not? If so what happens to the number when you back out teens working part time paying no taxes while being claimed by their parents? If the number includes people taking subsidies that would include a ton of wealthy farmers, ranchers etc taking subsidies. Ie my wife's uncle who is worth close to 30 million living on a 4000 acre ranch in OK almost funded 100% by subsidies and tax breaks. He calls himself a conservative , I hate the prick.

It's funny how different that dollar bill looks when you don't use the Heritage Foundation's effort.

Move "veteran's benefits" over there and add it to "military spending" and we end up with a third of our tax dollars going to fund the military-industrial complex.

Take a closer look at those "dependents", Ryley, and you'll find that zillions and zillions of those "welfare" checks are being given to multi-billion dollar agricultural conglomerates.

If the biggest corporations paid taxes in any way, shape, or form like we the people do (aren't corporations "people" anyway? I guess the are for purposes of buying elections, just not for paying taxes), then our percentage of where our tax dollars go would change considerably, too, not to mention being a lot lower.

Idealistic. Go to any " conservative " area of the country and you move from on fortified area to another with and absolute shat areas in between . No Mater what your political bent happens to be the nicest places to live on US is are liberal areas and that cost money.

Idealistic . Benjamin Franklin was just a man , not a saint. The bottom line is that there will always be those unwilling or in capable of doing their part. Do you want that group to define society or are you willing to accept that it is the nature of man and just pony up to live a little better on the whole? Sure it would be nice if everyone carried their own weight but for what ever reason that is not reality.

Ryley - we're screwed and there is nothing we can do about it. I realized after this past tax season, that if I flex & tighten up it makes things that much more traumatizing. Just relax and go to your happy place.

I keep getting emails that tell how the rules on getting on social security disability have been relaxed.
